July 25, 2008 - Lansing Lugnuts

It was "Jimmy Buffett" night at Oldsmobile Park, so naturally we had to make it down for the party.

The Mid-Michigan Parrot Head Club was invited to go out on to the field and lead the sellout crowd in singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch. We even invited some of the parakeets sitting near us to join in on the fun with their parent's permission.

Dave Gagnier won a baseball in the raffle. The fireworks at the end of the game were fun, even though the Luggies didn't win.

June 20, 2008 - Phun Phest at Guerrazzi's on US 27

MMPHC held it's 6th Annual Phun Phest to benefit both Hospice House and Capital Area Humane Society.

The day was bright and clear despite predictions of thunderstorms. A wedding party pulled their limo over and dropped in on the way to the reception ... with the bride wearing pink flip flops under her gown.

Michigan has about 3 weekends of nice weather a year, so we were up against a couple of other events again this year. We still managed to present each organization with a check for $3,250.

February 24, 2008 - Polar Plunge for Michigan Special Olympics

This was our second year taking part in this event. MMPHC was the #1 fundraising team for the Lansing Polar Plunge for Michigan Special Olympics. The event had been scheduled for Feb. 10, but was postponed due to severe cold and wind conditions. The new date was much better, with mild breezes, bright sunshine, and temperatures in the 30s. Click *here* for more photos of the event.

The club raised over $8,500+ this year ... shattering their 2007 total of $2145.

Three of our members, (Lee, Andy and Kim) raised more than $1000 each. Lee, pictured to the right, raised $1500+ and was #3 individual fundraiser for the entire event. (The event set a new Michigan record, raising over $53,000!)

The club should be receiving some tickests to a September MSU home football game as a prize for recruiting new plungers. We're already decided to use this tickets to raise money for next year's Polar Plunge.

Thanks again to the Detroit Parrot Head Club for challenging us in 2007.

November 7, 2007 - Michigan Historical Museum's "Jingle Ball"

The MMPHC decorated a Christmas tree in "Island Style" for the Michigan Historical Museum's annual "Jingle Ball" fundraiser. The tree was auctioned off at the event, earning $275.

October 20, 2007 - Beach Party for Ronald McDonald House

MMPHC teamed up with the Cadillac Club in Lansing for a fundraiser for the local Ronald McDonald House. The "Beach Bash" raised $813 for this worthy cause.

August - November, 2007 - MSU Home Football Saturdays

MMPHC members worked keeping the concession stand condiment tables tidy at Michigan State University home football games to help raise money for the Holt Community Food Bank. MMHC members put in 108 hours, which meant $450 for the Holt, Michigan food bank.

August 16, 2007 - Memory Walk for Alzheimers

MMPHC participated in the Alzheimer's Memory Walk. We gave the Memory Walk $2,260.

June 22, 2007 - Phun Phest

MMPHC's 5th Annual Phun Phest raised $3100 for Sparrow Hospice House despite the unusually low turnout this year. (We were up against several other events in town.) This completes our obligation for the room we are sponsoring, and a plaque will be outside the room with the Mid-Michigan Parrot Head Club's name on it. This also qualifies us as a Silver Sponsor for the Hike for Hospice in September.

April 27-29, 2007 - Meeting of the Web Board Minds at Pirate's Cove in Bancroft, MI raised more than $2750 for the Bancroft community.

April 28, 2007 - The Final WKAR-TV Auction

30 years ago, WKAR-TV was the first organization in the area to hold a fund raising auction. It was so successful it was copied by many other groups ... to the point where it no longer is unique enough to bring in enough money to keep it up. 2007 marked the last ever WKAR-TV Auction, so we just had to lend our support. Eight fun loving MMPHCers even stayed 1 1/2 hrs past our scheduled shift, doing "FINS" on camera and cheering wildly for each overbid

February 11, 2007 - Polar Plunge for Michigan Special Olympics

While we were at our holiday party on Friday, January 26 we received a challenge from the Detroit Parrot Head Club to raise money and participate in the Polar Plunge that was going to be held in Lansing in just over two weeks. We stepped up to the challenge, recruited a team, and raised $2145. This gave us the second highest total of any team that was participating in the event. It was 5 degrees below zero with the wind chill, but the water was a balmy 32. Click *here* for more photos of the event.

January 26, 2007 - After the Holidays, BOY Do I Need A Drink

When Gail's cat Packer discovered that we were going to be trying to raise a little money for an animal charity at our annual post-holiday party he just couldn't resist lending a paw. The Rum Chums gathered at Sammy's, on Jolly Road near Cedar St. in Lansing. Food, drink, fun and prizes ... the Rum Chums partied with a purpose and raised $110 for the Capital Area Humane Society.
